HRnexus AI
e day. One challenge. Build AI that actually helps people get on with their lives.
Finding a job is hard enough when everything's straightforward. Now imagine doing it in a language that's not your first, in a system you've never navigated before, in a country where you're still figuring out the rules.
That's the reality for thousands of people in our communities and that's exactly the problem we're asking you to help solve.
This one-day in-person hackathon challenges teams to build AI-powered tools that help people find work, access opportunities, and navigate everyday life. Think job search assistants, CV builders, benefits guides, language support tools — anything that makes a real difference to real people.
How it works: Turn up, form a team of 3–5 people, pick your challenge, and spend the day building. At the end of the afternoon, each team pitches their solution live to a panel of judges. No death by PowerPoint, just show us what you built and why it matters.
Who's it for: Developers, designers, HR professionals, social workers, community organisers, students - anyone who wants to build something that genuinely helps. Mixed teams with different backgrounds and skills are strongly encouraged. You don't need to be a technical expert - passion and creativity count for a lot.
What you need to bring: Your laptop, a team of 3–5 people, and the drive to build something that matters.
Prizes: Winning teams receive £50 vaucher, free access to HRnexus AI EduHub courses, a mentoring session with Oksana, and recognition across our platforms and community networks.

See you in Taunton. 👋

BioHackathon Edinburgh is part of a broader Bio-Innovation Series which consists of pre-hackathon workshops, the flagship BioHackathon event, and post-hackathon continuation workshops. Together, these stages bring biologists, programmers, and industry partners into a shared space for hands-on problem-solving, skill-building, and entrepreneurial exploration. We aim to cultivate a long-lasting ecosystem that supports collaboration, innovation, and the translation of academic research into real-world, potentially commercialisable solutions.
Planning Aid Scotland
A free, interactive workshop for anyone interested in exploring QGIS and digital mapping through practical group exercises. This in-person session will introduce practical digital mapping skills and show how spatial data can support planning and place-based project work. What you will explore Using QGIS, a digital mapping tool for planning and spatial analysis, participants will work with place-based data to explore how maps can help us understand places more clearly. You will look at how different layers of information can be brought together to reveal patterns, opportunities and challenges. Experienced digital mappers are welcome to come along and use their preferred programme. Why digital mapping matters The workshop is not only about learning how to use a mapping tool. It is also about understanding how data can tell different stories depending on what we choose to measure, prioritise and visualise. You will have the chance to test ideas and discuss findings with others. Who should attend This workshop is open to anyone who is interested in developing digital mapping skills. It may be particularly useful for people working in, studying or volunteering around planning, spatial data, place-based projects or community-led planning. You do not need to be a digital mapping expert to take part. The workshop will be friendly, practical and supportive, with opportunities to learn from others and build confidence. CPD The workshop can be counted towards your CPD. Partnership This training is delivered in partnership with Perth and Kinross Council.
