University of Edinburgh
BioHackathon Edinburgh is part of a broader Bio-Innovation Series which consists of pre-hackathon workshops, the flagship BioHackathon event, and post-hackathon continuation workshops.
Together, these stages bring biologists, programmers, and industry partners into a shared space for hands-on problem-solving, skill-building, and entrepreneurial exploration.
We aim to cultivate a long-lasting ecosystem that supports collaboration, innovation, and the translation of academic research into real-world, potentially commercialisable solutions.

Planning Aid Scotland
A free, interactive workshop for anyone interested in exploring QGIS and digital mapping through practical group exercises. This in-person session will introduce practical digital mapping skills and show how spatial data can support planning and place-based project work. What you will explore Using QGIS, a digital mapping tool for planning and spatial analysis, participants will work with place-based data to explore how maps can help us understand places more clearly. You will look at how different layers of information can be brought together to reveal patterns, opportunities and challenges. Experienced digital mappers are welcome to come along and use their preferred programme. Why digital mapping matters The workshop is not only about learning how to use a mapping tool. It is also about understanding how data can tell different stories depending on what we choose to measure, prioritise and visualise. You will have the chance to test ideas and discuss findings with others. Who should attend This workshop is open to anyone who is interested in developing digital mapping skills. It may be particularly useful for people working in, studying or volunteering around planning, spatial data, place-based projects or community-led planning. You do not need to be a digital mapping expert to take part. The workshop will be friendly, practical and supportive, with opportunities to learn from others and build confidence. CPD The workshop can be counted towards your CPD. Partnership This training is delivered in partnership with Perth and Kinross Council. Questions If you have any questions or comments about the workshop, please get in touch with Jo by emailing volunteer@pas.org.uk
FaithTech
BUILD is FaithTech's annual UK hackathon, bringing together technologists from across the UK to work on challenges that matter. Every October, developers, designers, product managers, and creative thinkers gather for a weekend of building. This year we're at Here East, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, one of the UK's most iconic innovation hubs. The format is simple: each team of around 10 people works alongside a charity or ministry on a real project. Over 30 hours you build a new feature, develop a prototype, or explore how emerging technology could serve a ministry in a completely new way. BUILD is more than a hackathon. It's a space where our love for Jesus meets our technical skills, where we gather as a community to build technology that redeems, restores, and reflects God's kingdom. Past projects have raised funding and launched as products serving communities across the UK and beyond. The weekend is the spark. The work keeps going.
